Playing poker is a thrill, playing “winning” poker is a challenge and extremely (both financially and emotionally) exhilarating.  For those who take the “journeyto become a champion seriously, there’s lots to get done.

Get a good poker book (reviews on this site will be posted), start reading forums, articles, and poker magazines, and join a cardroom site online and start playing.  Learn from your mistakes, listen to others, practice new techniques, try to eliminate making repeated errors, and remember, you don’t control the cards your dealt, the cards that hit the board, but you do control selection of starting hands, having patience and discipline to pick the best spots to enter pots (mostly being the aggressive player in the hand), and you must control your emotions.

Those who want to apply “basic, and fundamentally” sound judgments will learn at a very fast rate and will get swept up in the game and learning.  Beware:  Some new players will abandon this approach after several months, not spending as much time reading and asking questions and this could impede their steady progress.  Continue to do what you do and show the interest and desire as you progress each day as there as many levels to climb.

A number of poker tips from my book:  the Poker Journal will appear here soon.  I hope you can add these to your growing library of tips from others and use them whenever it appropriate.
